Attending preschool for just one year prior to kindergarten gives children a tremendous advantage. Preschool teaches children how to listen, interact with others, develop thinking skills, express themselves, improve coordination, reading readiness skills and math readiness skills. Our district offers both a state funded preschool program and a fee based preschool program. Our state-funded program is a free preschool program for families who meet income and other eligibility criteria. Our fee based program, called SmartSteps, is available to families that would not qualify for the state-funded program. The curriculum and instruction in all of our classrooms reflects the California Preschool Learning Foundations
